Yahoo Movies Porsche Confirms the 718 Cayman GT4 and Spyder Are Dead for 2024
Earlier today, we brought you news of a big price increase for the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman lineup. In that story, we linked out to a post on the Rennlist forum with a document from Porsche that indicated the 718 Cayman GT4, Spyder, and T models were being discontinued for 2024. Porsche confirmed that this is, indeed, the case. Twenty twenty-three is the last model year for the GT4, Spyder, and T models.
"The 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder, along with the 718 Boxster and Cayman T models have enjoyed critical acclaim and been a success with our customers," a Porsche spokesperson told Road & Track in a statement. "Limited production phases are a natural part of the process and part of the overall product strategy. With the 2024 model year these models will run out of production while all other models will continue."
The GT4 and Spyder were both products of Porsche's Motorsport division, which is responsible for 911 GT2 and GT3 models, and currently, the Cayman GT4 RS. A Boxster twin to the GT4 RS is on its way and will fill the void created by the Spyder, while the hardcore Cayman will continue its run. The 718 T models were special versions of the base Boxster and Cayman, pre-packaged with otherwise-optional sports features and unique styling elements. Those are being replaced by the new Style Editions.
At the time of writing, the Spyder and GT4 are still listed on Porsche's U.S. configurator page, but at their prices for the 2023 model year. The rest of the lineup reflects the previously reported price bumps, and the Style Editions now appear too.
While there will be no lack of great 718 models available, the death of the GT4 and Spyder is especially sad as they'll likely be the ultimate naturally aspirated, manual-transmission iterations of the Cayman and Boxster. The next 718 will be all-electric, so the flat-six, mid-engine Porsche has an expiration date. The T models were great too, offering relative value in the Porsche world that the Style Editions don't appear to match. Expect all three to continue to be popular used models.
