'Poor People's Campaign' Demonstrators Arrested in Washington

Dozens of protesters were arrested for blocking Constitution Avenue in front of the Dirksen and Hart Senate Office buildings in Washington, DC, on August 2, as they demanded the passage of a voting rights bill and other legislation.

The Poor People’s Campaign also rallied for an end to the filibuster and a higher federal minimum wage.

This footage filmed by Brooke Pierce shows a crowd chanting “Thank you, we love you" to demonstrators being arrested.

Protesters included Reverend Jesse Jackson and Reverend William Barber II, both who were willingly arrested by Capitol Police. According to reports from demonstrators, officers set up a table to conduct mobile processing for the overwhelming number of arrests being made. Credit: Brooke Pierce via Storyful
