Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (April 2)

Miami-Dade County’s top athletes continue to impress as spring sports teams geared up for the stretch run of their seasons.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, April 6, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Jaida Bayron, Somerset Silver Palms, flag football: Bayron completed 36 of 53 passes for 704 yards and 12 touchdowns in three wins this week for the Stallions. She also ran for 211 yards and two touchdowns and intercepted three passes on defense, two of which she returned for touchdowns.

Sean Duffin, Monsignor Pace, baseball: Duffin went 3 for 4 with four RBI, two doubles in a victory over Goleman.

Austin Simmons, True North, baseball: Simmons struck out nine and allowed no earned runs over five innings to lead the Titans to a 5-1 win over Plantation American Heritage.

Luis Suarez, St. Brendan, baseball: Suarez went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Sabres to a 5-4 win over Belen Jesuit.

Rachel Hawkins, Coral Reef, softball: Hawkins went 4 for 4 with two home runs and six RBI to lead the Barracudas to an 11-4 win over rival Palmetto.
