Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Nov. 27)

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

We’re down to the final four in football and the winter sports season is underway completely with wrestling beginning this week.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Dec. 1, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Mark Fletcher, American Heritage, football: Fletcher ran for 189 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries to pace the Patriots in their 31-20 victory over Cardinal Gibbons to advance to the Class 2M state semifinals.

Wayne Peart, Chaminade-Madonna, football: Peart had three of the Lions’ six sacks in their 49-16 win over West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman to advance to the Class 1M state semifinals.

Jordan Lyle, St. Thomas Aquinas, football: Lyle, who missed last week’s game due to an injury, rushed for 117 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Aquinas to a 35-7 win over Pompano Beach Blanche Ely in the Region 3-3M final.

Jason Trujillo, Cardinal Gibbons, boys’ soccer: Trujillo scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Somerset Canyons.

Sami Villaverde, American Heritage, girls’ soccer: Villaverde had two goals and an assist in win over Venice and draw vs. North Fort Myers.
