Upper Mount Royal death now considered homicide, police say

Calgary police say the death of a man who was found dead in the southwest community of Upper Mount Royal on Sunday is now being treated as a homicide.

Following an autopsy, police have identified the victim as Shawn Garry McCormack, 34.

In a news release, police said investigators believe McCormack's killing was a "targeted incident."

"We are seeking information from witnesses that can further our investigation," Acting Staff Sergeant Lee Treit of the Calgary Police homicide unit said in a news release.

"We are committed to following up on all investigative leads to find answers for the family and friends of the victim."

CBC previously reported that police received a call around 9:30 a.m. with reports of a body found in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W.

According to police, McCormack was found by someone walking their dog.
