Police have charged two Fort McMurray residents following a drug trafficking investigation in downtown Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP confirmed on Oct. 13 that on Oct. 6 a man was arrested in downtown Fort McMurray as part of an investigation where police seized suspected cocaine and cash. The value of the cocaine and cash has not been tallied. The investigation was done by the Wood Buffalo Drug Section, in collaboration with Edmonton ALERT and the Crime Reduction Unit.
Garland Lawrence Payne, 58, is charged with five counts of trafficking cocaine. A second individual turned themselves in to police on Oct. 8 in relation to the investigation. Nicholas Edward Payne, 24, is facing one count of trafficking cocaine.
Both individuals were held in police custody for a judicial hearing and have since been released. Garland Payne is scheduled to appear in Fort McMurray provincial court on Nov. 9, while Nicholas Payne is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26.
