England will look to take a significant step towards qualification for the 2022 World Cup when they face Poland in Warsaw tonight.

Gareth Southgate’s side have a 100 per cent record from their five qualifying games so far and will all-but book their place in Qatar if they win in what is their toughest game in Group I.

Southgate made 11 changes to his side for Sunday’s 4-0 win over Andorra at Wembley but he is expected to revert to the team that won 4-0 in Hungary.

England beat Poland 2-1 at Wembley in March but the visitors were without record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski for that game.

The Bayern Munich striker is back tonight and Poland, who are second in Group I and five points behind England, are likely to pose a different threat with him in their side.

Poland vs England team news

Gareth Southgate has no fresh injury worries to contend with.

Tyrone Mings is suspended but England will be at full strength with Southgate potentially naming an entirely different XI to the side that beat Andorra 4-0 on Sunday.

England had already sent Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United after picking up a knock in training last week.

Poland’s Bartosz Bereszynski sat out the San Marino match after limping off during the win over Albania. The Sampdoria right-back was being assessed ahead of a potential return for this game.

Predicted XIs

Poland: Szczesny, Bereszynski, Glik, Bednarek, Rybus, Jozwiak, Moder, Krychowiak, Frankowski, Buksa, Lewandowski

England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Phillips; Sterling, Mount, Grealish; Kane

Poland vs England prediction

England won 2-1 when the sides met at Wembley in March but, crucially, Lewandowski missed that match with a knee injury. Even without their talisman, Poland gave England a real fright and the hosts needed a late winner from Harry Maguire.

That night England gifted Poland a goal after a mistake by John Stones, and any slip up this time is sure to be punished by Lewandowski.

But England have taken maximum points so far in the group and although it will be a testing night they should take another big step towards Qatar 2022.
