Podcast: The Heat’s offense (and season) is on life support. Can it recover in Game 6?

The Miami Heat made all the wrong types of history Wednesday in Game 5 against the Boston Celtics.

The Heat missed 38 three-pointers — the second most in a single postseason game in NBA history. Kyle Lowry didn’t record a single point or assist — something he had never done in his 16-year career when he plays at least 15 minutes. Miami’s starting backcourt of Lowry and Max Strus has combined for just one field goal in the last two games.

It all has the Heat down 3-2 to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Eastern Conference finals. Miami’s season could end as soon as Friday when it faces the Celtics in Game 6 at TD Garden in Boston. David Wilson and Anthony Chiang, the Heat beat writer for the Miami Herald, offer up their instant reactions to Game 5 and preview Game 6 on a new episode of the Heat Check podcast, from FTX Arena.

The outlook is, frankly, pretty bleak.

All-Star forward Jimmy Butler is a shell of his usual self with a knee injury robbing him of his explosion and first step. Lowry is maybe even less than a shell after going 1 of 12 from the field in his last two games. Pretty much every role player is faltering, too, and guard Tyler Herro remains sidelined by a groin injury.

It will all be up to star post player Bam Adebayo in Game 6.

Still, the Heat is just two wins from the 2022 NBA Finals and would host a potential Game 7 in Miami. There’s a path to an unlikely trip to the NBA Finals for the Heat: Miami, which was the best three-point-shooting team in the NBA in the regular season, needs to finally get hot from long range and maybe it can set up a winner-takes-all Game 7 on Sunday.
