As temperatures soar across the UK, so does the cost of living - but our political leaders are missing in action as the battle for Number 10 drags on.

On the latest Planet Normal podcast, which you can listen to using the audio player above, columnists Allison Pearson and Liam Halligan have run out of patience with the lack of political leadership.

Allison is "fuming" about successive Governments' "grotesque failure on energy security," and she fears continued inaction on rising energy prices could be disastrous.

"If they don't do something almost immediately, there's going to be really serious pain," she said.

Allison warns the UK is currently "an entirely captain-less ship heading towards the iceberg, while Truss and Sunak duke it out for who's going to take on the poisoned chalice."

With weeks still left to in the leadership contest, podcast co-host Liam Halligan also takes aim at the "drawn out Tory psychodrama."

He warns the Conservative Party could, "start to look not just indulgent, but contemptuous of deepening public anguish as the cost of living crisis mounts."

"We need to get on now with governing. We need some grown up leadership and fast," Liam said.

Also joining the podcast this week is barrister and trainee psychotherapist James Esses, who was ejected from his university course for raising the alarm about transgender ideology being pushed onto young people.
