Pixar's new movie Elemental has delayed its UK release date.

Originally set to premiere this year on June 16, Elemental will now hit UK cinemas at the slightly later date of July 7.

The new feature film from Pixar Animation Studios will premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 27, ahead of its UK theatrical release.

Speaking about the upcoming movie, which will debut out of competition as the festival's closing film, Pixar chief officer Pete Docter said he looks forward to the film's Cannes premiere.

"As we all emerge from our pandemic cocoons and come together in story rooms, animation dailies and impromptu brainstorming sessions, it's a joy and honor to have Pixar back on La Croisette," Docter said.

"Directed by the extraordinary storyteller Peter Sohn, Elemental is so funny, full of heart and, frankly, stunning to see. It was created for audiences to experience on the big screen and I love that it'll make its world premiere at Cannes."

Set in a place called Element City, where a host of elements live and work, Elemental tells the story of Ember, a quick-witted and fiery woman who's always stayed close to home in Firetown.

In Elemental, Ember, who is voiced by Leah Lewis, finally leaves the comfort of her hometown to explore the spectacular world inhabited by each of the elements.

While the residents of Element City are under strict rules to not mix with the other elements, fire element Ember is accidentally introduced to a water element named Wade, who is voiced by Jurassic World: Dominion's Mamoudou Athie.

As polar opposites the pair soon find out they have a great deal in common which challenges their perceptions of the world as they know it.

The first full trailer for the movie was released last month revealing Schitt's Creek star Catherine O'Hara as the voice of Wade's loving mother Brook.
