WALKERTON – After three long years of battling COVID, Pigstock is back this weekend, Aug. 12-14, celebrating its 40th anniversary in a huge way.
As is stated on their website, in 1982 a group of ball players from the Brockton area – Cargill, Chepstow and Walkerton – organized a ball team in the Walkerton Orthodox Softball League. The name came from a comment by Dave Zettler: “You are a bunch of dirt pigs.” The name had staying power, and so did the team.
Today, that team has grown to include a major ball tournament with in excess of 100 teams, and three full days of fun, refreshments, entertainment, food booth, dance, raffle and much more.
Pigstock 2022 promises to be the biggest event to hit the area so far this year.
There’s more to the Dirt Pigs than Pigstock 2022. There’s also the foundation that supports local charities, causes and individuals too numerous to list.
Over the last 25 years, the Dirt Pigs estimate they’ve contributed $300,000 to various charities and those in need.
