Piers Morgan has been criticised for his "misogynistic" and "bitter" attack against Madonna following the announcement of her Celebration world tour.

Morgan, 57, branded the pop legend a "hot mess" as he criticised her decision to do a greatest hits world tour to mark 40 years since the release of her iconic self-titled album.

Advertising his TalkTV show on Wednesday, which was set to see him discuss the Take A Bow singer with a panel of guests that evening, he wrote on Twitter: "I think Madonna’s become the biggest cringe-making fiasco in world entertainment."

During the episode, he went on to say that Madonna "should be put out to pasture" and should give up "trying to be a sex kitten when you’re in your 60s".

When challenged by his guests as to why her age should matter, he replied that showing off one’s body should only be allowed if you are young.

When pressed as to why he felt this way, he offered no definitive answer and instead continued to insist that it is just how things should be.

He also showed a series of provocative snaps Madonna had shared on social media, including one of her lying underneath a bed flashing her exposed bum.

Morgan said the singer had hit "rock bottom" and she should do her upcoming tour in a rocking chair.

He was met by a barrage of criticism online. One person tweeted: "Piers Morgan is bitter and misogynistic. I’m surprised he didn’t find a way to mention Meghan Markle in his Madonna rant."

Another added: "Morgan is a dinosaur telling women what age they should cover up their bodies. So problematic, especially because he’s happy for young women strip off."

"In 2023 this man is telling women how to behave and what to wear. What in the Handmaid’s Tale are we witnessing right now," wrote a third.

A fourth commented: "Pearl clutching is so 1950s. I hope Madonna won’t give troll Piers the attention he craves.

"May she stay unclothed and unbothered until the bitter end."

"Tearing Women to pieces seems to be a Fetish of yours. Bravo for being consistent I suppose," added another.

Madonna has announced her first ever greatest hits tour on Tuesday, including a show at London’s O2 Arena, on her Instagram page.

The Queen Of Pop, who released her debut album, Madonna, in 1983, will begin her 35-date Celebration Tour in July 2023.

She will perform music from her entire career, from 1983’s self-titled debut album to 2019’s Madame X.
