Photos: Madhya Pradesh forest buried under blanket of locusts

Many parts of Western, Northern and Central India have been facing locust attacks. But now a social media post on locusts by an Indian Forest Service officer, Parveen Kaswan, seems to have taken the country by storm.

The picture is from the Panna Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh and shows a thick blanket of locusts covering the entire landscape shown in the photo.

"In the last two years we are seeing an upsurge in locust swarms. The reasons according to experts are the Mekunu and Luban cyclonic storms of May and October 2018 in Oman & Yemen. These created conditions for an upsurge in locust populations. You see climatic condition has such role in pest production," the IFS officer also explained.

He also cautioned that large swarms of locusts are now coming towards India and that they have the potential of eating everything in their path.
