JPMorgan Chase & Co appoints Lu Fang to chair the board of its China securities arm, replacing former chair Park Pu, according to a company memo reviewed by Reuters and confirmed by a company spokesperson. Greg Yu, recently deputy general manager of J.P. Morgan Securities China Company, has been promoted to general manager, according to the memo issued on Wednesday. The securities unit, which JPMorgan won the approval in 2021 to convert from a joint venture to a wholly owned subsidiary, employed 160 staff in China at the end of 2022, one of the largest among foreign securities firms.

China-US relations stable despite US 'interference', Chinese official says
Relations between Beijing and Washington are stabilising despite U.S. actions that harm Chinese interests, a Chinese foreign ministry has said ahead of a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In laying out goals for the visit, the unnamed official, described as director-general of the foreign ministry's department of North American and Oceanian affairs, said relations should stabilise and advance on a sustainable path. But he said Chinese interests and its "bottom line" must be safeguarded, the state news agency Xinhua reported on Tuesday.

UN rights chief 'horrified' by mass grave reports at Gaza hospitals
U.N. rights chief Volker Turk said on Tuesday that he was "horrified" by the destruction of the Nasser and Al Shifa medical facilities in Gaza and reports of mass graves containing hundreds of bodies there, according to a spokesperson. Palestinian authorities reported finding bodies in mass graves at a hospital in Khan Younis this week after it was abandoned by Israeli troops. Bodies were also reported at the Al Shifa site following an Israeli special forces operation.

Euro zone bond yields steady after mixed PMI data
Eurozone government bond yields were steady on Tuesday as traders digested mixed Purchasing Managers' Index data from the euro area, which did not offer any new hints on how fast the European Central Bank could lower borrowing costs. Overall business activity in the euro zone expanded at its fastest pace in nearly a year, HCOB's preliminary composite PMI survey showed, propelled by a recovery in the bloc's dominant services sector. Germany's 10-year bond yield, the benchmark for the euro zone bloc, was last little changed at 2.49%.
