Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian makes belated Metropolitan Opera debut as Madame Butterfly
Asmik Grigorian laughs when she recalls that she had been singing professionally for more than a decade when the International Opera Awards proclaimed her the “best young female singer” of 2016. Now at the peak of her career and seemingly able to sing just about any role she chooses, from Dvorak’s lyrical “Rusalka” to Puccini’s dramatic “Turandot,” Grigorian is about to make her Metropolitan Opera debut in another Puccini classic, “Madame Butterfly.” “Asmik is an operatic force of nature, one of the greatest and most complete vocal and acting packages in recent operatic history.”

TikTok has submitted a risk assessment report on its new app TikTok Lite to the European Commission, the company said on Tuesday, averting a possible fine. The EU executive had on Monday given the ByteDance-owned company 24 hours to provide the report, saying it has concerns about TikTok Lite's reward programme and its potentially addictive nature to children. Jeremy Clarkson has exposed the lie at the heart of veganism
Some months ago, in the interests of trying to understand views that differ from my own, I went to a London bookshop to hear a young vegan writer talking about meat. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, that long-haired and slightly grubby Etonian who was such a big part of British telly in the mid-2000s, got a kicking. I didn’t fully follow all the arguments (a lot of it was about art) but the author seemed to reckon that Hugh had put a happy face on something abhorrent.
