Photographer looks beyond her microscope

·1 min read

Photographer Eleanor Nidea Villena, owner of Elles Photography CA, is September’s guest artist at the Victoria Park Gallery.

A mother to three boys, she and her husband came to Canada in 2003 from the Philippines, finally settling in Kincardine in 2009.

She is an RMLT (registered medical laboratory technologist) at South Bruce Grey Health Centre.

Besides being a busy mom, she volunteers on the Canada Day committee at Kincardine Tourism, hopes to soon be a member of the Kincardine Lions Club and is an avid gardener and cook.

“I believe in giving back to the community and (using) my spare time meaningfully,” said Nidea Villena.

Photography though, is her passion and she loves taking photos of landscapes, sunsets, flowers and gardens, the moon and portraits.

“I had the inclination with science and arts and photography was my way of expressing what my eyes can see beyond what I see in the microscope,” she said. “Nature and landscapes are my perfect serenity escapes, even before pandemic happened.”

Her photographs on display at the Gallery depict vivid, brilliantly coloured images of sunrises, sunsets, the shoreline and local points of interest.

“Kincardine is a beautiful place and I'm grateful living here,” said Nidea Villena. “No matter how many sunsets there are, each one is special.”

Her work can be viewed on her Facebook and Instagram pages, EllesPhotographyCa, or by stopping by the Victoria Park Gallery during the month of September during regular operating hours.
