Photographer gets dog-piled as Croatia celebrate winning goal against England

The Croatia World Cup squad was understandably elated after Mario Mandzukic blasted in a goal deep into extra time, giving Croatia a 2-1 lead over England that put it in position to advance to Sunday’s World Cup final. The score was tied 1-1 in the 109th minute when the burly striker latched onto a ball from Ivan Perisic and burst into the six-yard box to lash a shot past England keeper Jordan Pickford, breaking English hearts and sending the Croatian team and its fans into ecstasy.

Unfortunately for some of the dutiful press photographers positioned on the sidelines, the goal celebration looks to have got a little out of hand. As the rest of the Croatian squad joined the towering Mandzukic on the sidelines, the entire mass of celebrating players tumbled over the advertising boards into a dog pile, with the unfortunate press photographers on the bottom.

Just watch.

Thankfully, it looks like no photojournalists were injured in the celebration of Mandzukic’s goal. At one point you can even see Croatia defender Domagoj Vida pull one of the piled-on photographers up and kiss his forehead while goal-scorer Mandzukic pats him on the back.

Moments later, the final whistle was blown and Croatia won the match 2-1, booking its passage to the final against France on Sunday. England meanwhile, will face Belgium in the third-place match on Saturday.
