Photo and video capture tornadoes Sunday north of Kansas City
The temperature turned brisk and the wind picked up as Cierra Thompson spotted the funnel cloud.
She filmed a quick video of the churning clouds from her vantage point of State Highway DD, west of County Club and east of Amazonia in Andrew County, Missouri, before seeking shelter.
Growing up in the Midwest, Thompson said she has seen her fair share of tornadoes, but this one was the closest, and the latest in the year, that she’s witnessed.
“It was truly interesting to see in the middle of October,” Thompson told The Star.
Multiple tornado warnings have been issued one after another beginning mid-afternoon Sunday as a line of storms crossed through northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri.
A tornado was also spotted Sunday just west of Bendena, Kansas. Sondra Kentzler captured an image from her vehicle on Highway 20.
As of 3:30 p.m., tornado warnings had been issued for Pattonsburg, Jameson, Weatherby, Mirabile, Kingston, Hamilton, Cameron, Plattsburg, Lathrop, Savannah, Rea, Rosendale, Country Club and Amazonia in Missouri, and for Troy, Kansas.
Most of the state of Missouri remains under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Sunday.
