Indian national charged with plotting the murder for hire of a Sikh activist is extradited to the US
An Indian national was extradited from the Czech Republic to the United States to face charges of murder for hire and conspiracy to commit murder for hire, Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blažek said on Monday. Nikhil Gupta was extradited on Friday after Blažek gave the green light for the move that was previously approved by Czech courts, the minister wrote on X, formerly Twitter. According to the U.S. indictment, Gupta was recruited in May by an unidentified Indian government employee to orchestrate the assassination of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a prominent Sikh separatist leader living in New York City.

Spanish holding Criteria plans to increase the value of its portfolio by 13 billion euros ($13.92 billion) by 2030 as part of its new five-year strategy, which also aims to reduce the weight that strategic sectors of the Spanish economy have within the portfolio. In its 2025-2030 strategic plan, Criteria, which is the investment arm of La Caixa foundation, said it aims for its portfolio to have a gross value of 40 billion euros in 2030 compared to the 27 billion euros it was worth in 2023. The weight that strategic sectors such as banking, energy or telecoms have in its portfolio will be reduced by 2030 to 55% from the current 74%, it added.

Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris and the first Jewish person to serve as the spouse of a nationally elected U.S. leader, will deliver remarks on Sunday at the groundbreaking of the memorial to victims of the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. The White House announced that Emhoff, who has been among the most visible and outspoken Biden administration officials on combating antisemitism at home and abroad, would attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Tree of Life campus. The June 23 event will include community leaders, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and CNN's Wolf Blitzer, who will serve as the ceremony's host.
