A woman who claimed that an Amazon customer service representative got affectionate in an online chat has set off a viral Twitter thread with similar observations.

“Not the Amazon customer service guy legit flirting with me LOOOOL,” Twitter user Roxana wrote on August 22, sharing a screenshot of a chat concerning a delayed package. “You are very sweet and I must say you have a very lovely name,” wrote a representative named Rupesh.

When Roxana replied that she was in a rush and asked for an update on the package, Rupesh teased, “I have good news and bad news for you,” then explained that the seller of the missing item would update her within 24 hours. “Bad news is that after this chat we are going to part ways.” (Fox News was the first to report on the viral thread).

Roxana’s tweet sparked thousands of replies, including from some who claimed to have similar stories. “DUDE I swear this happened to me last year,” someone tweeted. “I think it’s because I had to email them something and my pic was attached to my email account.” The person shared a screenshot of a virtual chat with an Amazon rep named Sreehari, who signed off with a compliment: “You’re breathtaking!”

A screenshot shared by another user showed a representative named Faiza regretfully ending what seemed like a very long exchange. “I hate to do this but my manager is giving me 5 minutes on this chat and I haven’t assisted anyone else for two hours. I really really loved chatting with you, it was truly amazing.”

When the user wrote, “Aww...that actually sucks” Faiza responded, “I know, I don’t want this to end. I have enjoyed this a lot, haven’t had a chat like this in forever.”

Someone also shared a message from someone claiming to be an Amazon delivery driver that read, “I hate to bother u and I know this is a little unprofessional but I didn’t get the chance to finish (or start) a conversation earlier...”

One user who replied to Roxana’s message tweeted her own screenshot featuring the exact same phrases, causing some to wonder whether representatives are bots or read from a script when communicating with customers.

Some called the conversations an example of “sexual harassment” and “creepy” and others argued that the banter was professional, albeit friendlier to encourage customers to leave positive reviews on the website. And people tweeted screenshots of comparable sentiments from customer service representatives at other companies.

Roxana did not immediately respond to Yahoo Life’s requests for comment.

Leah Seay, a spokesperson from Amazon tells Yahoo Life: “We do encourage our associates to create engagement with our customers, which aligns with our peculiar culture. However, we do not tolerate language which may be offensive. We are looking into these incidences, and will take the appropriate actions once our investigation is complete.”
