Houston-based handbag designer Beth Purpich is championing what she’s dubbed “collegiate luxury.” A former college athlete herself (she played basketball for Auburn) with a flair for design, Purpich sources only the finest materials and most talented artisans to produce her collections. Among her biggest hits to-date is the Longhorn bag, which debuted as a calf hair tophandle and found an ideal ambassador in Austin-based stylist Loreal Sarkisian, who just happens to be the wife of University of Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian, always impeccably turned out (the woman brought Chanel to the sidelines), carried the new miniature version (stadium-approved size) in burnt orange alligator to last weekend’s game against Oklahoma which saw the Longhorns win 49-0.
