Pearl Jam cancels Sacramento show after two band members contract COVID-19 in last week

Pearl Jam canceled its Sacramento and Las Vegas shows after the rock band’s bassist, Jeff Ament, tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday morning, it announced in a tweet.

The band was nearing the end of the first leg of its U.S. tour, which kicked off May 3 in San Diego.

The Sacramento show was scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Golden 1 Center, and ticket holders will be automatically refunded through their method of purchase. Friday’s Vegas show was scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Area.

“Our attention to staying inside the bubble has been constant,” Pearl Jam wrote in the tweet. “We have truly done all we could to remain clear of infection.”

Another member of the band, drummer Matt Cameron, also tested positive for coronavirus last week, ahead of two shows in Oakland and one in Fresno.

The band’s latest album “Gigaton” was released in March 2020 and they had planned to tour that spring, but all dates were rescheduled due to coronavirus restrictions.

The tour will resume in Europe next month, and the second leg for North America will kick off in Quebec City, Canada on Sept. 1.
