This new Citrus Heights sports bar is serving up burgers with a twist. Here’s what’s unique

New Citrus Heights restaurant Rock Hard Burgers & Brew is aiming for those who love hamburgers but with enough other food choices to satisfy locals who want a sports bar experience.

Rock Hard opened on Jan. 20. It replaced Beer Dogs, a hot dog and beer and wine restaurant, which closed in October.

The establishment offers a sports bar theme with televisions throughout playing sporting events.

The new owner of Rock Hard, according to lead bartender Janson Diaz, is Rocky Moffitt, who also owns Rocky’s 7440 Club on Auburn Boulevard along with other bars.

Diaz said the Rock Hard name is a play on Rocky’s name and the restaurant plans to be naming several of its bar drinks after its owner. Diaz said the co-owner is Tom Romeo, who owns the shopping center the restaurant is located in.

What to look for: No more hot dogs are on the menu, but a variety of burgers are offered.

The choices include the Rock Hard burger with Havarti cheese and caramelized onions or the more unique peanut butter burger, with peanut butter sauce and jalapeno jam. Both go for $15.99.

The pricing isn’t cheap but the burgers carry a hefty 8-ounces of beef and choice of fries or a salad.

“It’s a whole new menu,” said Diaz, who does double duty, serving food and drink at the bar and at the establishment’s tables.

The lowest priced item on the menu is a house salad at $5.99.

For mac and cheese fans, Rock Hard offers three choices. A variety made with beer for $10.99, a second type made with a combination of Gruyere, cheddar and Jack for $9.99, and carnitas for $12.99.

The restaurant offers three pizzas — margarita, BBQ chicken and meat lovers — for $14.99 each. Another option is the blackened chicken sandwich for $15.99.
