Paul Feig Has No Plans To Remake Any More Classics

Having had his fingers burnt by the wrong end of a proton pack in remaking ‘Ghostbusters’, director Paul Feig has said he’s got no plans to remake any more movie classics.

The ‘Bridesmaids’ helmsman took an astonishing amount of flack for daring to retool the 1984 movie, not least because of doing so with a female cast.

Asked if he’d consider remaking another revered film, he told The Huffington Post unequivocally: “No, no, no. No, I will not.”

That sounds pretty definitive.

“This one was just too tempting because I knew we could do something with it that was exciting,” he added.

Feig came under fire from particularly fanatical fans of Ivan Reitman’s original movie from the day of its announcement.

Much of the choicest hatred was virulently misogynistic in nature, saved for the fact that the new take on the story would feature an all-female cast.

However, Feig has also said that some good had come out of it too, dubbing the furore ‘false controversy’.

Alongside the bile of a vocal minority, he says he’s been swamped with ‘thousand and thousands’ of positive messages from women and young girls.

“It’s such a validation for the years of false controversy,” he said.

“Up until then it was me just dealing with a bunch of angry dudes.

“There’s a whole generation of kids and young people who didn’t have their own ‘Ghostbusters,’ who, to them, even though it’s a great movie, it’s an old movie.”

Though the movie is yet to turn a profit – it’s made $180 million from its $144 million production budget – a sequel is already being talked up.

President of Sony’s worldwide distribution Rory Bruer told The Wrap: “While nothing has been officially announced, there’s no doubt in my mind [a sequel] will happen.”
