Parades and keys to the city: Chiefs players honored in hometowns for Super Bowl win

You may have missed this, but Thursday was Skyy Moore Day in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

Moore, the Chiefs wide receiver who grew up in that part of the state, was honored by county commissioners last week, and he hopes it becomes an annual event.

“It doesn’t stop, my career’s not over, we have to keep going and do it again,” Moore told Trib Live

This type of scene has been playing out in cities around the United States as players from the Super Bowl champion Chiefs return to their hometowns to be honored by local officials.

Here are some of the other celebrations that have taken place and a couple that are planned.

Creed Humphrey

Shawnee, Oklahoma, held Creed Humphrey Day on March 4 in honor of the Chiefs center.

A ceremony for Humphrey was held at his old high school and he was given a key to the city.

The sheriff

Ascension Parish in New Orleans held a parade for Chiefs defensive back Justin Reid over the weekend and he was given the title of honorary sheriff.

Reid also received a key to the parish.

“Special feeling, it was really really cool and it had some special surprises at the end,” Reid told WBRZ-TV of the celebration.

Trey Day

Jackson, Tennessee held a special ceremony for Chiefs guard Trey Smith on March 3 and declared it was “Trey Day.”

“I got that Super Bowl ring, and when I get it, I just want the city of Jackson to know we’re all champions, because this community is what helped me grow up,” Smith said, per the Jackson Sun. “This community is what led me to this moment.”

L’Jarius Sneed

March 4 was L’Jarius Sneed Day in Minden, Louisiana, in honor of the Chiefs cornerback.

There was a parade and Sneed also received a key to the city.

State Representative Patrick Jefferson told the crowd, per the Press Herald: “You are an inspiration to throngs of young people who aspire to reach and conquer the grandest of stages. Further, you are a welcoming burst of energy, synergy, and excitement for many, as you are Minden High, Louisiana Tech, and now a valued member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Brother Sneed, you will be called many things in your life, and we pray that they all will be good. But after Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, they must call you Super Bowl champion!”

Carlos Dunlap

On Thursday, the Dorchester School District and Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, South Carolina, will pay tribute to defensive end Carlos Dunlap.

‘Parade for Pop’

The city of Vineland, New Jersey, is planning a parade for running back Isiah Pacheco.

The “Parade For Pop” will be held April 23, according to WFPG.com.

“So many residents of Cumberland County are eager to demonstrate their admiration for Isiah’s accomplishments,” Mayor Fanucci said, per WFPG.com. “This community rally will be an opportunity for all of us to offer our congratulations to our hometown hero upon achieving his dreams of becoming a World Champion, and for being such a wonderful ambassador for the City of Vineland.”
