Orphaned Kangaroo Joey Can't Wait to Get Back in Carer's Cloth Pouch

An adorable orphaned baby kangaroo in an Australian wildlife sanctuary was filmed on May 14 clinging to a staff member’s leg until she was allowed back into her cloth pouch.

The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs shared footage on Facebook showing the joey hanging on to the leg of a volunteer.

“Our spirited orphan Rooby is not letting go until she is in her beloved pouch,” the caption said, adding, “baby kangaroos feel safe, happy, and loved when they are in their pouches.”

Rescued joeys need care 24/7, as they would receive in a mother’s pouch. Caregivers mimic the marsupial experience using cloth pouches, as shown in the video.

Rooby, described by the sanctuary as being very young, “spends just a few minutes a day out of her pouch to start to build strength in her tail and legs.” Credit: Tahnee Passmore via Storyful
