Orlando Bloom plans to marry Katy Perry 'very, very soon' — but coronavirus could force them to 'put things on ice'

Orlando Bloom is speaking out about having a baby with fiancée Katy Perry, who announced her pregnancy in her music video for “Never Worn White” on March 4.

“This kind of joy isn’t something you can put into words — or really wrap your head around,” the English actor told U.K. newspaper the Times. “Obviously we’ve known for a long time before going public. As you can imagine, it’s such an incredibly precious, private, yet commonplace moment to be sharing with the world. I’ve been trying not to get too excited and gushy, but I do keep catching myself listening to wistful music, everything from Bowie’s “Wild Is the Wind” to the Streets’ “Blip on a Screen” ... as well as my fiancée’s new single of course.

“The whole family is over the moon,” added Bloom, who is also father to 9-year-old son Flynn from his first marriage to supermodel Miranda Kerr.

The 43-year-old Lord of the Rings star also shared that, while he and the 35-year-old pop star plan to get married “very, very soon,” the ongoing coronavirus outbreak may postpone the wedding festivities. (On Friday, he revealed to fans that filming on his show Carnival Row had been suspended and he’d flown to be home with family.)

“But I’m not joking when I say that coronavirus might have a play in whether we put things on ice, because we’re going to be traveling and we don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable,” he said.

Though Bloom joked that watching A Marriage Story — Noah Baumbach’s Oscar-nominated film about a couple going through a painful divorce — made him wonder if tying the knot a second time was a “terrible idea,” he’s optimistic about his future with Perry. “The sum of two is greater than one,” he told the newspaper.

“So there’s Katy Perry, and there’s Katheryn Hudson, her real name,” he added of his future wife’s fame. “Katheryn is the woman I’m really intrigued by. It’s like, I’m a boy from Kent and you’re a girl from Santa Barbara. That’s what I’m focused on, not the bells and whistles.”

Bloom shared that while he and Perry “play the game” of hitting the red carpet and “looking spiffing next to each other, smiling for the cameras,” their real relationship hinges on more mundane moments. “What you talk about when you are passing the potatoes. Or ‘What’s on the news?’ or ‘What are you reading?’ or ‘What are we watching?’ Or how we spend our Sunday.

“She’s amazing at arranging things,” he continued. “My son put it so well. I asked, ‘What’s it like with Mum and her husband [Kerr has remarried Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel]? How’s it different to us?’ He smiled. ‘You’re the fun couple.’”

The interview also sees Bloom admitting that, prior to meeting Perry in 2016, he spent six months practicing celibacy on the advice of surfer Laird Hamilton.

“Laird said, ‘If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out,’” he shared. “It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, ‘Who am I going to meet?’ I was suddenly, like, ‘Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends.’

“I was going to do three months, but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself,” he added. “I know that sounds crazy.”

Despite the impact it had on his relationships with women, Bloom ultimately wouldn’t recommend swearing off sex.

“It was insane,” he said. “I don’t think it’s healthy. I don’t think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there.”
