Oprah reveals neither Queen nor Prince Philip made remark about Archie's skin colour

Prince Harry says the member of the Royal Family who asked about the colour of son Archie’s skin was not the Queen nor the Duke of Edinburgh, Oprah Winfrey has revealed.

In their interview with the TV chat show host, broadcast on CBS early on Monday in the US, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle revealed that an unnamed royal asked him how dark Archie’s skin might be.

Speaking to CBS This Morning on Monday, Winfrey said Harry "did not share the identity [of the royal] with me but he wanted to make sure I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother or grandfather that were part of those conversations.

“He did not tell me who was a part of those conversations.”

In the original two-hour interview, which will air on ITV on Monday evening, Meghan revealed there were times when she “didn’t want to be alive any more” because of the pressures of life within the Royal Family.

On Monday afternoon, CBS This Morning broadcast an unseen clip from the interview in which Harry said racism in the UK was a “large part” of the reason why he and Meghan left the country to live in the US.

In the new clip, Harry is asked by Winfrey: “Did you leave the country because of racism?” He replied: “It was a large part of it.”

He told her about a fundraiser for the charity Sentebale, which he founded, in which he had a conversation with an unnamed friend of several newspaper editors.

Harry said: “One of the people at that dinner said to me, ‘Please don’t do this with the media, they will destroy your life.' This person is friends with a lot of the editors.

“He said, ‘You need to understand that the UK is very bigoted’. I stopped him and I said, ‘The UK is not bigoted, the UK press is bigoted, specifically the tabloids. Is that what you mean?’

“He goes, ‘No, the UK is bigoted.’ I said, ‘I completely disagree.’

“But unfortunately if the source of information is inherently corrupt or racist or bias then that filters out to the rest of society.”

In the original interview, Harry said he felt “let down” by his father the Prince of Wales, saying Charles stopped taking his calls after the couple’s decision to step back from royal duties. Harry also said he and his brother William “were on different paths”.

The couple also revealed that they are expecting a baby girl.

The couple were met with a wave of support in the US following the interview, although the reaction in the UK was noticeably different, with some sections of the media continuing to criticise the Sussexes.
