OPINION - The Leader podcast: London’s most expensive train station

It’s one of London’s least glamorous train stations - you’ll always see photos of grim-faced crowds struggling to get home on the concourse at Euston station on strike, power cut or those “wrong-leaves-on-the-track” kind of days

But after eco tunnelling protests and complaints the £2.6 billion building works taking well over a decade are making local residents’ lives hell into the night, could this urban carbuncle be transformed into Britain’s most ambitious - and expensive - railway station?

Works are due to take well over another decade - but as a side bonus building the Euston portion of the UK’s north-south rail line, commuters will see two particularly tricky Tube stops linked with a single ticketing hall.

Switching from Euston Square to Euston has long tormented passengers dashing for a connecting train, after realising that despite the similar names, they’ll need to traverse the A501 arterial road.

The Leader speaks with HS2 project client director Andy Swift and Evening Standard transport editor Ross Lydall about the transformation at one of London’s most unloved stations.
