Ontario Securities Commission Appoints New Chair

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) has named Kevan Cowan as its new chair.

Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy appointed Cowan, a former OSC board member, following a recommendation by the provincial securities regulator.

Cowan was previously chief executive of the Capital Markets Authority Implementation Organization. He has also been president of TSX markets and practised securities law.

Cowan takes over from Heather Zordel, who stepped down as OSC chair less than a year into her tenure.

Zordel was the first chair of the OSC after it was reorganized and separated the roles of chair and chief executive into two positions.

The OSC is an independent provincial government agency that enforces securities legislation.
