New one-stop COVID test and treatment sites to open in Sacramento. Here’s where

California is updating its testing sites throughout the state, adding treatment for COVID-positive people.

Under these new ‘Test to Treat’ locations, residents, including those who are uninsured, can get tested for COVID, see a doctor and get a prescription for antiviral pills, Paxlovid or molnupiravir. The program is specifically designed to serve uninsured individuals.

According to a news release from the California Department of Public Health, this expansion of services is a part of the state’s SMARTER plan, rolled out earlier this year to prepare for the virus’ continued, likely seasonal, presence in the state.

“We are working to ensure that Californians who have symptoms of COVID-19 have access to rapid testing and immediate treatment, regardless of insurance coverage,” said Department of Public Health Director and State Public Health Officer Dr. Tomás Aragón, in the release. “Our goal is to help Californians recover if they get COVID-19 and ensure high-risk patients have access to treatments that can keep them out of the hospital.”

There will be 146 “Test to Treat” sites across California and they will be open in the “next couple of weeks.” People of all ages can get tested at the locations. Those who are 12 and up, and weigh more than 88 pounds and have high-risk conditions may qualify for COVID-19 treatment, according to the health department website.

COVID-19 treatments are most effective soon after symptoms begin, and you’ll need to consult your health provider or visit a “Test to Treat” center. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent against infection and severe cases of the coronavirus.
