The One Show's Jermaine Jenas was forced to present the programme alone yesterday evening (Monday, October 25) after co-host Alex Scott fell ill.

Opening the latest episode on his own, he explained the situation to viewers.

"Alex Scott should be with me but unfortunately, she's been hit, like so many, with that dreaded super cold so get well soon, Scotty," he said. "Can't wait to have you back!"

Scott's absence prompted several messages from viewers on Twitter, as they praised Jenas for holding the fort and wished Scott a speedy recovery.

"[Jermaine] is doing a fantastic job presenting the show single-handedly tonight. Great work. Get well soon @AlexScott," said one, as a second added: "Doing amazing, Jermaine. Very natural. Well done."

The guests on last night's One Show were stand-up comedian John Bishop – who was there to discuss his new role as Doctor Who companion Dan Lewis – acting royalty Joanna Lumley and West End favourite Michael Ball.

Jenas resumed his presenting duties on the show earlier this month, having taken a short break to welcome his third child, son Jacob, with partner Ellie Penfold.

"I basically do everything. I feed him, I... Nah, I'm joking," he laughed, as co-host Alex Scott interjected: "I was going to say... No-one, and I mean no-one is going to believe you."

"I took it too far," he smiled. "My wife would kill me. No, he's doing really well and he's sleeping. Thank God, he's doing great."

Jenas also presents MOTDx, as well as serving as a pundit on Match of the Day and BT Sport.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
