Based on Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga series, One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they scour the seas in search of the titular treasure.

More from TVLine

One Piece stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Vincent Regan as Vice Admiral Garp, Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown (one of TVLine’s Performers of the Week!) and Morgan Davies as Koby.

The announcement was made Thursday on social media. See Netflix’s post below:

One Piece‘s eight-episode first season premiered on Thursday, Aug. 31, instantly topping the list of Netflix’s most popular shows.

The final shot of Episode 8 strongly implied that Smoker, one of Luffy’s many adversaries from the manga, will be pursuing the Straw Hat Pirates in Season 2. But if you’re looking for official confirmation on that, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

“I’m not allowed to say,” One Piece co-showrunner Steven Maeda told TVLine about this character ahead of the show’s drop on Netflix. “But you could read into it what you want to read into it. I think it’s important to tee up a little bit moving forward, especially with a series like this where there’s a really strong plot drive. I would leave that to the audience to figure out.”
