A man was shot and another stabbed in a violent night in Westminster.

A 26-year-old man was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound after neighbours alerted police to the shooting in Beethoven Street at 7.45pm on Sunday.

His condition has not been revealed.

Armed police swooped on the residential road where they also found a 19-year-old nearby with a non-life threatening stab injury.

A third man, 29, was also found injured and taken to hospital. Police said his condition is not yet known.

A crime scene remains in place in the area of Beethoven Street and Bruckner Street as officers stepped up patrols and increased their stop-and-search powers.

The Metropolitan Police said one man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been taken to a central London police station where he remains in custody.
