One dead in Phenix City in third shooting death in Russell County in past week

One man is dead after a shooting in Phenix City over the weekend, the third Russell County shooting death over the past week.

Phenix City police responded at 2:45 p.m., Saturday, to a shooting in the 2700 block of Sixth Street. Police found Daeqwon Mackey, 22, with multiple gunshot wounds, according to officials.

Mackey was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he died, according to a release.

Police say Mackey was shot in a drive-by shooting. The vehicle involved in the shooting in believed to be a silver Hyundai Sonata, according to a release.

This is the third shooting in Russell County over the past week. Last week a 36-year-old Hurtsboro man was shot and killed, and a 12-year-old Phenix City child was also fatally wounded.
