How old is Kim Kardashian's daughter? North West appears on cover of magazine

Move over, Kylie, Kendall and Kim, because North West is the latest member of the Kardashian-Jenner family that’s grabbing everyone’s attention.

The 5-year-old daughter of the 38-year-old reality star and husband Kanye West is making headlines on her own after WWD revealed their February Beauty Inc. cover on Friday, featuring the eldest West child. And according to the publication, the young fashionista is following in her mom’s footsteps as one of the most influential figures at the forefront of her generation.

In a cover story filled with colorful images of North in neon outfits, styled by Kim Kardashian herself with makeup to match, WWD writes that the little girl may not be aware of her growing influence — but the writer assures that it’s prevalent.

“Without a public Instagram or YouTube channel of her own, she’s too young to fully understand what a digital footprint is. And yet, hers is already wildly popular,” an excerpt from the article reads. “West, whether she knows it or not, is at the forefront of a generation that is highly connected, engaged with fashion and beauty and individualistic in style.”

Close to the eldest age group within generation Alpha, whose oldest members are six years old, it’s safe to say that North definitely isn’t aware of her clout. Neither, however, are some of the generation’s other prominent members — which include Luna Legend, daughter of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Ruby Lou Charnas, daughter of fashion influencer and blogger Arielle Charnas, and Ren Bannister, daughter of Instagram fashion partnerships director Eva Chen.

As the latest generation to be born into a digital age (alongside their older counterparts in Gen Z) and the first to be born into a social media age, WWD claims that Alphas are an age group “unlike any the world has ever seen,” that will have a huge impact on the beauty industry. But since its oldest members aren’t close to reaching double digits in age, people don’t seem to be buying it. Especially considering the publication’s cover, which mentions the coming of age of a hardly developed generation.

“Comes of age? This is worrying. She is a child,” one person wrote in response to WWD’s reveal of its cover on Instagram. “She’s 5, literally 5, she can’t read and write. Eye for fashion and makeup? Again she’s 5,” said another.

Others also spoke up about the publication’s styling decisions for the toddler, suggesting that they’ve gotten ahead of themselves when introducing the world’s youngest age group.

“Could you have left her hair natural and toned down the eye make up? Embraced her natural beauty played up what seems to be her confident personality,” someone said, while another stated, “Don’t strip her innocence too early.”

Still, some are excited to see North on her first solo cover, with the expectation that there will be more to come — “She has a great future,” one commenter wrote — while her mom posted the photos proudly to her social media feeds.

On her Instagram, Kardashian assured followers that North had “so much fun doing this!” And even clarified with some hair and makeup credits that the little girl was only wearing eyeliner.

All that really mattered to North, according to her mother, was that her favorite food was on set.
