Putin says Russia is ready to compromise with Trump on Ukraine war
MOSCOW (Reuters) -President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he was ready to compromise over Ukraine in possible talks with Donald Trump on ending the war and that Russian forces were moving towards achieving their primary goals on the battlefield. Trump, a self-styled master of brokering agreements and author of the 1987 book "Trump: the Art of the Deal", has vowed to swiftly end the conflict, but has not yet given any details on how he might achieve that. Putin, fielding questions on state TV during his annual question and answer session with Russians, told a reporter for a U.S. news channel that he was ready to meet Trump, whom he said he had not spoken to for years.

The jail term handed down to Dominique Pelicot is the maximum available for aggravated rape in France.

Security cameras in Wingate captured the horrifying moment a drunk driver flipped her car while two children and a dog were in the back, with police saying they “miraculously” emerged unscathed.According to Durham Constabulary, 41-year-old Gemma Trevail was driving her Suzuki S-Cross around 9 am when she collided with a shop front and flipped the car.Trevail was brought into police custody, where she was breathalysed and found to have 105 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath, three times the legal limit.Trevail was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of child neglect, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, and criminal damage.She admitted the offences and appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on December 14, where she was banned from driving for two years, police said.“Trevail’s actions that day were incomprehensible. She showed absolutely no consideration for anybody else when she chose to get behind the wheel of her car that morning,” Inspector Andy Howarth, from Durham Roads and Armed Policing Unit, said.
