Officer arrested on domestic violence-related charges, Sacramento police say

A Sacramento police officer was arrested Friday on domestic violence charges, the department announced. On Thursday, the Sacramento Police Department was notified of a domestic violence incident in the Natomas area that happened about a week prior. The victim involved has visible injuries but did not need to be hospitalized, the department said. The suspect, 30-year-old Justin Shepard, has been an officer in the department for about three years. The department said the incident happened when Shepard was off duty. He was arrested Friday on felony domestic abuse charges and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
