Nottingham Forest are preparing for a frantic final day, with Atlético Madrid defender Felipe flying in for a medical on Tuesday.

Felipe is expected to become the third Brazilian signing of Forest's January window after a deal was agreed with the Liga club. The 33-year-old will sign an 18-month contract.

Jonjo Shelvey will sign a two-and-a-half year contract after undergoing a medical at Forest's training ground, leaving Newcastle after more than six years.

With concerns over the fitness of Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson, who has sustained a thigh injury, Forest are also targeting the addition of a new goalkeeper.

Paris Saint-Germain's Keylor Navas and Sergio Rico have both been discussed, but negotiations have been complicated.

A winger is also a priority for head coach Steve Cooper, who is stepping up his pursuit of new players as he contends with a recent injury crisis.

Forest will look to move players out before the deadline. Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O'Brien who joined in the summer and has made 13 Premier league appearances is poised to join Sheffield United if the Championship club sell Sander Berge to Newcastle United or Fulham.

Harry Toffolo, the defender who also arrived from Huddersfield during the last window, is in talks with Anderlecht over a potential loan move while centre-back Steve Cook and goalkeeper Jordan Smith are also available.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester United, Cooper said: "Like any transfer window we want to close with the squad in a stronger place than when we started.

"The objective is always to add balance and depth to the squad, any manager will say the same.

"The club is back in the Premier League so we're at a completely different stage now to then. We have to live in the moment and do what we need to compete."
