Nosferatu has received huge praise in first reactions following its first screening.

The anticipated Robert Eggers horror remake stars Bill Skarsgård as terrifying vampire Count Orlok, who is infatuated with Lily-Rose Depp's haunted young woman.

Based on the first social media reactions from critics who have seen the movie, Nosferatu looks set to be a hit, with praise for its stars as well as its "creepy" and "beautiful" tone.

Gizmodo's Germain Lussier called it a "knockout" and "gory, creepy, propulsive, with a hint of devilish humor".

"Lily-Rose Depp is fantastic as the woman at the center of it all and Bill Skarsgard’s vampire is wholly unique and grounded," he added. "Not my favorite Eggers but excellent nevertheless."

David Crow suggested it was "one of the most achingly beautiful films this year" and that Eggers "digs deep into the native soil beneath Nosferatu and Dracula, finding the gruesome (yet perversely alluring) core of the creature's appeal".

Next Best Picture's Matt Neglia went as far to propose Nosferatu as "one of the most seductively macabre films ever made", teasing "a breathtaking final shot that sent chills through my body as I left the theater".

"Robert Eggers’ #Nosferatu goes HARDER than any other horror film this year," added critic Courtney Howard. "Holy f**k. A gorgeous grotesquerie of dread-infused terrors & a divine dark delight."

"NOSFERATU is a hypnotic, psychosexual nightmare," wrote Discussing Film's Andrew J Salazar, adding that Depp gives "a showstopping performance" alongside a "fantastic" Nicholas Hoult, while Skarsgård is "incredible and unrecognizable".

Critic Carlos Aguilar added: "After a few months I can finally share I loved NOSFERATU.

"It further crystallizes Eggers’ exploration of evil as an elemental force, as inherent to existence as desire, emerging from the same divinity as kindness. It’s so inextricable from us, fighting it demands great sacrifice."

As well as the aforementioned stars, Nosferatu's cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Simon McBurney, Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson.

Nosferatu is released in US cinemas on December 25 and is released in UK cinemas on January 1, 2025.
