This North Carolina city ranks among the trendiest Labor Day destinations. Here’s why

North Carolina is home to one of the nation’s hottest travel destinations for Labor Day, a new report finds.

Raleigh ranks No. 2 on a list of places people can’t wait to visit over the holiday weekend, according to findings published Tuesday, Aug. 16.

To create the list, the vacation rental website Airbnb considered the cities where people were reserving trips the most. It then analyzed places with the highest volumes of nights already booked for Sept. 2 to 5.

The results come after Airbnb saw last year’s busiest day for check-ins around Labor Day. This year, more travelers are expected to go solo, “with single trip bookings for the holiday weekend increasing by more than 20 percent compared to 2021,” according to the rental company.

So what could be drawing people to Raleigh? Though Airbnb doesn’t say in its report, the city earned recent recognition for being home to some of the nation’s top restaurants and for having one of the friendliest environments for pets, McClatchy News reported.

It’s not the first time a North Carolina city has been recognized as a top place to visit.

In the mountains, the tourist hot spot of Asheville landed on a list of up-and-coming U.S. travel destinations. Also in the region, Banner Elk ranked as one of the nation’s best small towns.

Along the coast, an Outer Banks beach was named the best in the country, The News & Observer reported.

This time around, Raleigh earned the No. 2 spot after being edged out by Columbus, Ohio. Rounding out the top five most desired destinations were Tampa, Florida; North Kingstown, Rhode Island; and Jacksonville, Florida.
