Nonprofit organization declines donations from Jamie Lynn Spears' upcoming book

A nonprofit is respectfully declining Jamie Lynn Spears' charitable act.

The "Zoey 101" actress announced Oct. 11 she'd finished writing her memoir "Things I Should've Said." Spears added that she hoped the book would help "anyone else out there who forgot their worth" and that the proceeds from sales would go to the mental health and addiction recovery nonprofit organization This is My Brave.

But the organization circled back on their decision to accept book proceeds and announced Monday they would "decline the offer."

"We are deeply sorry to anyone we offended," the organization posted on Instagram. "We are declining the donation from Jamie Lynn Spears' upcoming book."

The organization faced backlash from Britney Spears fans, who say Jamie Lynn Spears exploited her older sister's conservatorship battle and didn't support her.

USA TODAY reached out to Jamie Lynn Spears and This is My Brave for further comment.

In July, the younger Spears sister spoke for the first time about the conservatorship in a video posted to Instagram.

"Maybe I didn't support her the way the way the public would like me to with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you I've supported my sister long before there was a hashtag and I'll support her long after," Jamie Lynn Spears said in the video.

After the “Zoey 101” star announced her book, Britney Spears took to Instagram the next day to announce she was also releasing a book — a post that many assumed was the star commenting on her younger sister's memoir.

"I’m thinking of releasing a book, next year but I’m having issues coming up with a title so maybe my fans could help," she wrote. "Option #1 … “(Expletive), I really don’t know” Option #2 … “I really care what people think” What do you guys think 🤔🤔🤔 ????"

Jamie Lynn Spears says her book will be about her own journey with mental health.

"I owe it to myself, my younger self, and to my daughters to be an example that you should never edit yourself or your truth to please anyone else," she wrote during the announcement.
