Missouri fans will have ample early opportunities to see Tigers’ first-year men’s basketball head coach Dennis Gates and his squad at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers will begin play with seven home nonconference games, the school announced Friday.
Gates’ Tigers debut comes Nov. 7 against Southern Indiana. Southern Indiana is entering its first year in Division I. The matchup is the first of 13 nonconference games set for Missouri for the 2022-23 season.
While some games, such as the return of the Border War to Mizzou Arena on Dec. 10 were previously set, Missouri also announced that it will head to the state of Kansas for a meeting with Wichita State on Nov. 29. When Missouri heads to play Wichita St., it will be looking to avenge a 61-55 loss last season. The teams have split the two meetings in as many years.
The Tigers will host Penn on Nov. 11 before playing Lindenwood two days later. Like Southern Indiana, Lindenwood also made the recent move to Division I.
Missouri will then play SIUE on Nov. 15 and then face Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 20. Both schools had losing seasons last year.
Missouri’s November schedule continues with a Nov. 23 matchup with Coastal Carolina and then Houston Baptist on Nov. 26.
The team’s first game in December comes against another in-state opponent in SEMO on Dec. 4.
Then, when Kansas comes to town on Saturday Dec. 10, it will be the Jayhawks’ first visit to Columbia since 2012. Missouri won that matchup 74-71. The team’s renewed their rivalry last season and the Jayhawks, the eventual national champions, took the matchup 102-65.
The Tigers will also go to Sunrise, Fla. on Dec. 17 for the AutoNation Orange Bowl Classic for a matchup against Central Florida. Mizzou will then meet Illinois in the annual Braggin’ Rights game Dec. 22 in St. Louis.
The team will also host Iowa State on Jan. 28 as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. That game was also announced prior to Friday.
Last year, Missouri finished 12-21 and was below .500 in nonconference play under coach Cuonzo Martin.
Missouri’s SEC opponents were announced in June, but the official dates have not been announced.
