Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer boys high school athlete of the week

This week’s Nominees

Antoni Ceciliano, Lincoln Charter Soccer: The Eagles’ senior scored three goals and had one assist to lead Lincoln Charter to a 7-3 victory at St. Stephens Aug. 31.

Ceciliano has nine goals and four assists for Lincoln Charter (4-1 through Monday).

Jake Glenn, Lake Norman Soccer: The Wildcats’ senior had three goals and one assist to lead Lake Norman to a 7-1 win at North Iredell Aug. 30.

Glenn also had an assist in 5-0 win over Hough Aug. 29.

Glenn has five goals and three assists for Lake Norman (4-0-1 through Monday).

Forrest Hayes, North Lincoln Soccer: The Knights’ senior scored three goals and had one assist to lead North Lincoln to a 6-4, comeback victory over Lincolnton Aug. 30.

North Lincoln (1-2-1) trailed 3-1 at halftime of the same game.

Ethan He, Providence Day Soccer: The Chargers’ sophomore scored two goals in a 3-1 win over Christ School Aug. 28.

The next day, He had one goal and one assist in a 2-1 victory at Davidson Day.

He finished off the week with a goal in a 4-3 loss at Rabun Gap Nacoochee Aug. 31.

He has six goals and three assists for Providence Day (4-4 through Monday).

Jason Hernandez-Salinas, West Cabarrus Soccer: The Wolverines’ senior scored a goal in a 5-2 win at Olympic Aug. 28.

Hernandez-Salinas also had a goal and an assist in a 9-0 victory at Ashbrook, Aug. 31.

Hernandez-Salinas has eight goals and 12 assists for a West Cabarrus team that is still unbeaten at 8-0 this season.

Gavin Jansen, Central Academy Cross Country: The Cougars’ junior ran an 18:47 to finish as runner-up in the Rocky River Conference preseason meet at Wingate University Aug. 29.

Jansen’s efforts helped the Central Academy cross country team to a 22-point victory at the same meet.

Luke McKinney, Metrolina Christian Soccer/Football: The Warriors’ senior scored a goal in 2-0 win over Anson County in weather shortened game Aug. 29.

McKinney also scored on a penalty kick in a 5-1 loss at Charlotte Christian Aug. 31.

McKinney finished off the week on the football field with three extra points in a 35-0 win over Charlotte Latin.

The Metrolina Christian football team is 3-0, while the Warriors’ soccer team is 4-3 this season.

Zane Metz, IV, Lake Norman Charter Soccer: The Knights’ sophomore goalkeeper had nine saves in 2-1, double overtime win at West Rowan, Aug. 28.

Metz, IV, also had six saves in a 2-1 victory at East Rowan Aug. 30.

Metz, IV, has 37 saves for Lake Norman Charter (2-4 through Monday).

Xavier Porter, Gaston Day Soccer: The Spartans’ junior goalkeeper had 12 saves, including saving four of seven penalty kicks, as Gaston Day outlasted Davidson Day on penalty kicks Aug. 31.

Porter, who has three shutouts this season, had 17 saves, while allowing one goal as Gaston Day is 4-0 overall through Monday.

Erik Soto-Flores, A.L. Brown Soccer: The Wonders’ junior forward scored four goals in an 8-1 win over Mallard Creek, Aug. 31.

Soto-Flores has 11 goals and six assists for an A.L. Brown team that is still perfect at 7-0 this season.
