Nolan Catholic fires athletic director, suspends football coach following probation

Just days after being hit by a two-year probation from TAPPS for using ineligible football players, Nolan Catholic announced on Tuesday that it has placed head football coach David Beaudin on indefinite suspension and terminated Jordan Hampton as the school’s athletic director.

Hampton also served the football team as defensive coordinator.

The school did not respond to an email sent on Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, the Nolan Catholic athletic program was placed on probation through June 2023 for using five ineligible football players. Additionally, Nolan has to forfeit three football games.

“Our students and our families deserve the best, and we intend to provide that to them,” Nolan Catholic president Kristy Webb said in an email sent to parents, students, staff and alumni on Tuesday.

An email was sent on Tuesday Oct. 19, 2021 from Nolan Catholic president Kristy Webb stating that the school terminated athletic director Jordan Hampton and placed head football coach David Beaudin on suspension.

According to Hampton and Beaudin, the five football players that were in question submitted the proper paperwork weeks before TAPPS made a decision to sanction the athletic program during a meeting on Sept. 29, while multiple efforts were made to confirm the players’ eligibility.

The student-athletes transferred to Nolan earlier this year.

Forms were sent to TAPPS, but no action was taken to formally approve the players’ eligibility, however, according to Hampton and Beaudin, TAPPS never told the program that they were ineligible to play before the Sept. 29 meeting.

Despite the probation, the Nolan football team and all other sports are still eligible to go to the playoffs during the next two years.

The football team drops out of first place in TAPPS 1-6A, going from 4-0 in district to 2-2. It also forfeited a non-district game that came on Sept. 4. The team still has three games left on the schedule, including a home contest with Argyle Liberty Christian on Friday.

Nolan strength and conditioning coordinator and assistant coach KJ Williams will serve as the interim head football coach. Assistant athletic director Brian Farda will serve as the interim athletic director.

Beaudin has been the head coach at Nolan since the 2016 season. Prior to this season, the Vikings have posted a 36-18 record with Beaudin, which included 11-1 in 2019 and 8-1 with a trip to the state championship game in 2020.
