10 Seafaring Power Couples

Two by two, a mass of animal species march onto the big screen — and into the pop culture canon — with this weekend’s “Noah.”

Darren Aronofsky’s retelling of the Bible’s ultimate account of seagoing survival stars Russell Crowe as Noah himself. And (spoiler alert!) Noah’s double rainbow of animals, so to speak, proves unsinkable.

Here is our ranking of 10 others who have paired off aboard a seafaring vessel:

10. Loggins and Messina

At-sea supremacy factor: With songs like the smooth ‘n slow “Sailin’ the Wind" and the upbeat "My Music,” it’s no wonder the yacht rock duo reached No. 10 on the pop charts with their 1973 boat-inspired record, Full Sail.

9. ‘Step Brothers’

Why the yacht works: With lyrics to their ill-fated boat-staged rap video that recall “the Niña, the Pinta, the Santa Maria” — and not much else we can share here without censoring — Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly masterfully make the exercise hilariously uncool.

8. ‘Master and Commander’

Reason their boat floats: Russell Crowe stands at the helm of a sea vessel, while he and his brainy shipmate, played by Paul Bettany, cheat death on the open seas.

7. Joanna and Dean

Nautical domination dynamic: In the 1987 comedy “Overboard,” a boat bump to the head didn’t stop the love from growing between Joanna (Goldie Hawn) and Dean (Kurt Russell).

6. Kanye West and Young Jeezy

Bodacious boat aspect: West and Jeezy received a Grammy nomination in the Best Rap Duo category for their “Amazing" 2009 track. The video featured aerial ocean-scapes and West looking stoic on a speeding boat at sunset.

5. Chuck and Wilson

Raft combo of success: The beauty of Wilson, the life-saving volleyball in 2000’s “Cast Away,” is that he/it kept Chuck (Tom Hanks) afloat literally (attached to his raft) and figuratively (as his island buddy).

4. The Captain and Tennille

Why naval crossings work for them: Theirs was a nautical love affair on and offstage that spanned five decades — before they ended their sea voyage of love earlier this year.

3. Jack and Rose

Their seagoing staying power: The only reason this pair didn’t make No. 1 on our list is because, as we all know by now, Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) doesn’t make it through rough waters. But Kate Winslet, who played Rose, can attest their hearts did go on… and on and on: “Titanic” remains one of the highest grossing movies of all time.

2. Martin and Matt

Better on a boat because: In Steven Spielberg’s 1975 hit ocean thriller “Jaws,” Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) and Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) live to tell the tale, having escaped the toothy clutches of a ginormous great white. Unfortunately, Quint (Robert Shaw) does not.

1. Lonely Island and T-Pain

Why they’re champs of the sea: “I’m on a Boat” started out as a spoof on “Saturday Night Live” — but soon after the 2009 track blew up on iTunes and also nabbed an unprecedented Grammy nomination.

"Noah" sails into theaters this weekend.
