X-Men's Nicholas Hoult has just been cast as the lead of a new horror movie focused around Dracula's henchman.

The actor, who rose to fame with his role in the E4 show Skins before taking on the role of Henry "Hank" McCoy aka Beast in the most recent X-Men iteration, will star in the upcoming horror adaptation titled Renfield.

In the original 1897 Dracula novel by Bram Stoker, RM Renfield was a patient at an asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions but was actually a servant of Dracula.

While it was confirmed that Hoult will be playing the titular character, Deadline, who first announced the casting, reported that the film is to take place during the present day rather than being a period piece.

Among other crew announcements, The Tomorrow War director Chris McKay is on board to helm the movie, which is based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Invincible) with Ryan Ridley (Community, Rick and Morty) behind the script.

Universal Pictures is currently in the process of developing a few high-profile monster pics. Ryan Gosling will star in Wolfman, while a Van Helsing flick sees The Conjuring's James Wan producing.
