The NHS has urged Gwyneth Paltrow to stop promoting misinformation after she suggested that long-Covid is treatable with “intuitive fasting”, herbal cocktails and visits to an “infrared sauna”.

The Goop businesswoman explained in her latest blog post that she started her own treatment after catching Covid-19 and suffering from “long-tail fatigue and brain fog”. She received medical advice that “this was a case where the road to healing was going to be longer than usual" so embarked on her own personal remedies.

Paltrow started a “veto and plant-based” diet, fasting until 11am every day and then consuming “lots of coconut aminos” and sugar-free kombucha and kimchi, she wrote.

“I’m doing an infrared sauna as often as I can, all in service of healing,” she added, as well as recommending Goop’s herbal non-alcoholic cocktails.

Despite claiming she’d done her research, NHS England has warned against her advice and urges influencers to stop spreading misinformation. Professor Stephen Powis, national medical director for NHS England, said: “In the last few days I see Gwyneth Paltrow is, unfortunately, suffering from the effects of Covid.”

“We wish her well, but some of the solutions she’s recommending are really not the solutions we’d recommend in the NHS,” reports the Guardian.

He continued: “We need to take long-Covid seriously and apply serious science. All influencers who use social media have a duty of responsibility and a duty of care around that.”

“Like the virus, misinformation carries across borders and it mutates and it evolves. So I think Youtube and other social media platforms have real responsibility and opportunity here.”
