The son of Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning was allegedly assaulted outside of a local restaurant over the weekend.

Danica Benning, the executive’s daughter, posted on Instagram that her brother was attacked by four men while they were waiting for their Uber outside Banter Room in Yaletown around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.

“I tried to fight them off my brother and then one of them strangled me and threw me up against the wall,” Danica Benning wrote in her post. “The police were notified but (the four men) ran off immediately. My brother is in the hospital.”

She also specified in the Instagram story that she attempted to fight them off, but was also attacked by the group.

Vancouver Police did confirm that a 25-year-old man was hospitalized with visible injuries on his face after he declined assistance from paramedics and travelled to the hospital himself. While Danica did not specify which brother was attacked, the age lines up to Danica’s younger brother, Nicholas.

Benning has been the general manager of the Canucks since 2014 and has been in NHL front offices for multiple decades.
