What's new, what's leaving on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Crave, Apple TV+ Canada in June 2023

June is filled with some exciting new shows and movies to stream, including the last season of Mindy Kaling's Netflix series Never Have I Ever, the new Marvel show Secret Invasion starring Samuel L. Jackson (coming to Disney+), a new season of HBO's The Righteous Gemstones (on Crave in Canada) and Season 2 of the Canadian Prime Video comedy The Lake.

But with so much new content on streaming sites, we're also losing access to a lot of great TV and films on streaming sites in Canada. This includes the nostalgic Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie It Takes Two being removed from Netflix, along with the original Full House sitcom.

The 2000s hit The O.C. is set to leave Prime Video in June, while Canada's Crave streaming site is removing Season 23 of The Voice and Patch Adams with the late Robin Williams.

Shows, movies being removed from Netflix Canada

On June 2, Netflix will be removing two Adam Sandler movies, the iconic Billy Madison and the streaming site removed the 2012 film That’s My Boy, which also starred Andy Samberg, Susan Sarandon and Leighton Meester.

For Millennial streamers, a massive loss will be felt with the 1995 Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie It Takes Two, also starring the late Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg, has left Netflix. On the TV side of things, Netflix has also removed Full House, which also starred the Olsen twins.

Other comedies leaving Netflix Canada include Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator, I Don’t Know How She Does It with Sarah Jessica Parker, It’s Complicated starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin, Kick-Ass and Bad Neighbors.

If dramas are more of your style, No Country for Old Men with Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Woody Harrelson are being removed from Netflix. Along with Christopher Nolan's Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio, and the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie action/romance film Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The Idol, June 4

It's been next to impossible to avoid the controversy surrounding the HBO show The Idol, starring Toronto's own Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, alongside Lily-Rose Depp. Depp plays Jocelyn, a pop star who's ready for a comeback after having a nervous breakdown. She ends up getting sucked into the world of nightclub promoter Tedros (Tesfaye), who actually runs a sex-fuelled cult.

According to Rolling Stone, the production saw dramatic changes when Sam Levinson came on board, after director Amy Seimetz's sudden exit. An anonymous crew member was quoted in Rolling Stone saying it turned into a show about "a man who gets to abuse this woman and she loves it," with another production member saying, "it was like any rape fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show — and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music better."

The Righteous Gemstones, June 18

The Righteous Gemstones is by far one of the best comedies to sink your teeth into, created by Danny McBrdie and also starring John Goodman, Adam Devine, Edi Patterson, Cassidy Freeman and Tony Cavalero. The series follows the wacky, extreme and extravagant life of the wealthy televangelist Gemstone family.

In Season 3, Eli Gemstone (Goodman) has officially retired, leaving his kids to run the church. The nine-episode season also marks the introduction of several new cast members, including Emmy Award-winner Kristen Johnston and Steve Zahn.

Variety has also confirmed that Kim Cattrall will return as Samantha, with a cameo in Season 2 of the show.
